"The new building where the V bombers are housed is good looking on the outside but, it does not display these aircraft in a way that you can step back in awe of them.
There are too many items in the space that make it hard to appreciate the aircrafts' scale. The building does its job of keeping them safe from the elements but I think a conventional building like Hangar 1, 2 or 3 would be better suited for them.
Ed: Thanks for the comment Dan. We appreciate the time you've taken to make it and the score of 4.5 out of 5 that you have given the Museum.
We receive comments on a regular basis about the NCWE exhibition and take them on board when we look at how we should enhance our displays on this site. Given the limited Hangar space that we have at Cosford, it is not feasible for us to move the V Force elsewhere, but we do receive on a regular occurrence positive comments about the innovative manner in which our 3 V bombers are displayed. "The family enjoyed their day out to the museum on Wednesday. We spent about three and a half hours looking round the hangars and exhibits. The site is much improved from my last visit many years ago.
Unfortunately I felt the day was let down by my experience with the Refuel restaurant. Having spent time in a queue to order, I was then told that hot food is only served between 12 and 2:30pm.
When I enquired as to where this was stated I was shown one small line of text under the opening times of the restaurant, which was not clearly visible from anywhere unless you were stood right in front of it.
There is no mention of it on the website either. All the menu's for hot food were still on display, personally I think it would be a good idea to put the service times on the bottom of the menu.
If I had known the cooking times in advance we would have planned our journey to arrive a little later around midday and then the family could have eaten before going into the museum.
Instead of enjoying a meal at the end of our visit we left with two disapointed children (our 3 year old didn't understand why she couldn't have her sausage & chips). We stopped on the way home and spent thirty or so pounds on food which I would have preferred to spend at the museum restaurant, the profits of which I'm sure would have gone into helping preserve the museum for future visitors."

"We visited for the first time yesterday with our 5 year old son who had an absolutely fantastic time. There was so much to see and all so interesting that it was hard to fit it all in - a return visit is required. Our little boy particularly liked the children’s' exploration area, the Mascot Search and his dinner (!) and our favourite was the ever beautiful Vulcan. Thank you for a super day out which we hope to repeat soon. It really exceeded our expectations."

"As a student studying History at University, Cosford was an excellent place to visit. The exhibits were fantastic and the new building housing the National Cold War Exhibition was magnificent both inside and out. It is so wonderful to see such things preserved but the section of the Berlin Wall interested me the most out of all of the exhibits. Although the Planes were wonderful to see nothing was more of a privilege than meeting 95 year old Cyril Ashley, his story about his involvement in World War Two brought a tear to my eye. My generation is lucky to have such people to talk to about something that happened 45 years before we were born, and I felt like this piece of History was the most valuable of my day at Cosford. So I would like to thank Mr. Ashley for sharing his story with me and thanks to him, I will never forget my day at Cosford. "

"Visited today for the first time, as part of the Fiat 500 club's meet up. My wife and I were quite amazed at how well the site is laid out. The design of the main hanger is quite unusual. Alf was a first rate guide; full of knowledge and amusing stories. So many planes and vehicles to see; including a Lightning. It's well worth a visit. Even my wife was interested on what was on offer."

"Thank you for this opportunity to send in our comments. Christine and myself are pensioners.
We know nothing about aircraft even though we make regular use of them for holidays abroad. I can say I have been in the pilot’s cabin on a flight from Heathrow to Barbados. We enjoyed the visit to your museum and would have no hesitation in recommending a "butchers" to neighbours and friends.
Here are one or two of our thoughts: 1 There is a lack of seating in the display areas. This might be a deliberate policy to encourage visitors to use the cafes but the size of the exhibits and the interspersing of the round cubicles for the video presentations make it a lengthy experience without a break.
The panoramic wall display on the history of flight, year on year, is excellent and illuminating; I never realised the black box was an Australian invention. The wall display shows how brave and fearless the early aviators were and in one sense I felt slightly disappointed not to find a biplane among the exhibits, or perhaps I missed it, we only stayed for about 2 hours.
2. The Rolls Royce engine seems to be a recent addition: there is no write up or explanation of how it works. But I am sure you have that in mind.
3 and lastly, it seems to be a popular museum, the car park was quite full and the public have a keen interest in all things aircrafty, but the danger for simple guys like us is rafspeak, perhaps it is unavoidable. The museum is a must for all students, young and old alike."

"WOW!!! What an amazing museum!
Travelled down from Lincolnshire with a currently serving officer in the RAF, who had been stationed there for some years.
A totally amazing day out, the Cold War museum, surely the jewel in the crown. Will never forget standing underneath the Lightning, suspended from the roof, going for the vertical!!
Also very privileged to be given a guided tour of the Vulcan, by a fantastic member of your staff, who had crew chief'ed on them for 10 years,a thousand thankyous Terry!
An absolutely fantastic day out, I would recommend to anyone from 5 to 85!

"What a superb museum Cosford is, it was our 1st visit to Cosford and both me and my husband were so impressed, both the content, so many aircraft, and the layout, how did you fit so many in? Truly impressive. I found the exhibition of Warplanes particularly poignant.
Could anything be improved, not really, the only problem we had - we spent so long being totally engrossed by the exhibits we were too late to get food in the restaurant!
Looking forward to our next visit, we would willingly have paid an entrance fee to such a site."

"Just visited the museum for the first time today - Fantastic! - Why have I not been before now?
The exhibits are imaginatively presented, and cleverly set in context, especially in the Cold War area.
The supporting information and non-aircraft items help to re-create the mood of the time, and I found myself returning to exhibits to follow-up information learned from other displays.
A great day out - The sausage and bacon buns in the restaurant are not to be missed, and even the car park attendant was friendly and helpful.
I will be back again soon!"

"I have visited the museum over twenty times during the past ten years and have never been disappointed by any of the changes or improvements carried out at Cosford. It just gets better and better ... and it was superb to start with!
The staff are friendly, approachable, and very knowledgeable. The nature of museums with static displays, such as the aerospace museum, is such that there is often very little to keep kids occupied but I have very rarely seen visiting children not looking completely 'gobsmacked' at the exhibits. There is plenty of space for them to safely run-off some excess energy on the green areas outside the Welcome Centre too.
As for the new Cold War Exhibition -- what can I say apart from that it is superb, breathtaking, enormously fascinating, and a hugely important educational tool and reminder of the "developed" world's crazy policy of Mutually Assured Destruction (remember we still lived under the threat of nuclear armageddon well into the 1980s !).
All in all, a day out at RAF Museum Cosford cannot be too highly recommended.
Please do not forget that parking is not free after August 1st, so remember to take some money."

The new 'Cold War' exhibition in the incredible new hangar is nothing short of stunning, and brings the whole subject to life. It is brilliantly assembled and excellently thought-out. I missed it last year and I hope to go again in June if I don’t I will miss it because it is an amazing day out for all the family the women have a market to go round the men have the air show which even women and children like and there is also a fair which I love going on with my family.

In my opinion these superb aircraft should have been sited in the lower part of the magnificent new hangar where you could have looked down on their awesome profiles.
