11.00am–12.30pm and 1.30pm–3.00pm

This summer holiday the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford has created a range of activities running from 1-31 August, that will get families working together and having fun. Each week throughout the school holiday will have an exciting activity dedicated to it; plus a drawing competition running at weekends and Bank Holiday Monday, where participants stand a chance of winning a £15 voucher to spend in the Royal Air Force Museum Shop.

Dance Takes Guests Back To Battle Of Britain Era

18th September 2010
7pm

Members of the public are invited to join the Aerospace Museum Society’s popular 1940’s Hangar Dance at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford on Saturday 18th September 2010. The event will take guests back in time to 1940 and the Battle of Britain, in a tribute to the brave men and women some 70 years after this defining moment in the history of the Royal Air Force.

The event will be located in the Museum’s Warplanes Hangar set against a backdrop of wartime aircraft and artifacts including two of the most significant Battle of Britain aircraft, a Hurricane and the world’s oldest Spitfire.

Gliders Weekend 24th And 25th July

The British Gliding Association, Wrekin and Staffordshire Gliding Clubs will be putting on a glider weekend for visitors at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th July 2010.

Wrekin and Staffordshire Gliding Clubs are offering visitors the chance to buy trial flights for a discounted price of £60. This involves a 20 minute flight up to 2000ft in a two seater glider with a qualified instructor. These unique trial flights will be available from 10.00am to 5.00pm both days. Participants need to be over the age of 14 and the activity is weather permitting.

The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford Wins Top National Award

The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford was last night crowned Winners of the ‘Small Employer of the Year Award 2010’ at The National Apprenticeship Awards 2010, an Oscar style awards ceremony in London.

Currently five apprentices are employed in the Museum’s Michael Beetham Conservation Centre. MBCC Manager Mr Tim Wallis and Training Manager, Mick Shepherd, were presented the award by Mr Peter Butler of BT, who sponsored the Small Employer of the Year category.

Battle Of Britain Gala Dinner

The RAF Museum Cosford is hosting an exclusive Gala Dinner on 11th of September to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

For the first time ever, this is an opportunity to dine in the multi award winning National Cold War Exhibition, in the shadow of the three V Bombers.

A champagne reception will be followed by entertainment and a four course dinner in this poignant sunset ceremony.

Opportunity To Meet New Director General At Cold War Forum

Air Vice Marshal (retd) Peter Dye OBE, the new Director General of the Museum, will be chairing on behalf of the Milton Keynes Aviation Society a Cold War Air Crew Forum on Tuesday 13th July.

Commencing at 7:30pm, the forum provides the public with the opportunity to meet with and listen to flight crew who were involved at the sharp end of operations during this fraught era of 20th century history.

Conservation Centre Crowned Regional Winners At Apprenticeship Awards

The Michael Beetham Conservation Centre (MBCC) at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford has been announced the West Midlands Regional Winner of the ‘Small Employer of the Year Award 2010’ at The Apprenticeship Awards 2010. As the regional winner the MBCC will now go through to the finals at the National Apprenticeship Awards, an Oscar style Awards ceremony which will take place on Thursday 15th July in London.

The regional awards luncheon and presentations were held on Friday 18th June at the Birmingham Hippodrome, hosted by BBC’s Suzanne Virdee. The MBCC’s Manager Tim Wallis and Training Manager Mick Shepherd, attended as finalists within the Small Employer of the Year category, the MBCC having already beaten many of the applicants in this category within the regional selections.

June's Navigator Highlights

This month Navigator, the Museum's online collection, offers you two major new highlights 'The Battle of Britain' and ' Charles Brown Photographs 1929 - 1940'.

The Battle of Britain:
The Battle of Britain was a pivotal moment in the history of the world. The Luftwaffe's failure to destroy RAF Fighter Command between July and October 1940 proved to be a major turning point in the Second World War.

The RAF Museum holds some of the most important objects relating to the Battle of Britain. Here you will find a small range of objects, some of which can now be seen in the Battle of Britain upper gallery at RAF Museum London.

Charles Brown Photography:
Charles Edward Brown (1896-1982) was an active aviation photographer from the 1920's to the 1960's. His collection of aviation photographs is one of the largest compiled by a single photographer and he is reknowned as one of the finest air-to-air photographers. Here can be found a sample from the period 1929 - 1940.

As part of its modernisation and development plan the Royal Air Force Museum has undertaken the initial planning for a new Battle of Britain Exhibition at its London site.

The new building will allow wider public access and ensure that they Museum's unique collection of Battle of Britain aircraft memorabilia and archives is preserved for future generations.

Museum Launches Battle Of Britain 70th Anniversary Photography Competition

Today the Royal Air Force Museum launches a national photography competition as part of its calendar of activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Accordingly, it is inviting members of the public to submit photographs taken at various Battle of Britain events that will be taking place around the country this summer. Entries should be made via the Museum’s website, www.rafmuseum.org.

The Royal Air Force Museum Trustees are pleased to announce that Air Vice-Marshal Peter Dye OBE has been selected as the Director General, Royal Air Force Museum with effect from 9th June 2010.

Peter Dye is the current Director Collections and Deputy Director General. He has been Acting Director General since 1st February.

Museum Launches Mobile Phone Website

The Royal Air Force Museum is proud to announce the launch, today, of its mobile phone website – www.rafmuseum.mobi

Aimed at the potential visitor who has to juggle family life with the various challenges of today’s frenetic lifestyle, this website tells them clearly and concisely the latest news and events taking place at the Museum’s London and Cosford sites; gives directions on how to reach either site via public or private transport and contains a direct dial option to either Museum’s switchboard in case they require further assistance.

As part of this revamp and inorder to help you get the most out of your visit to us we have placed online a free audio tour that will guide you through our award-winning National Cold War Exhibition.
